Sharks Lose Mitch McCarron To Lingering Knee Injury

In a huge blow, the SIT Zero Fees Southland Sharks have announced the immediate departure of star guard Mitch McCarron due to a lingering knee complaint. McCarron will immediately report back to Melbourne United for treatment and at this stage the Sharks have not ruled out a possible return for McCarron later in the season.

Sharks Head Coach Judd Flavell has mixed emotions to see one of his star off-season recruits depart.

“Of course we are sorry to see Mitch go. He is a high-quality person and player and he showed what he was capable of over the last three weeks, but he needs to get himself right and it’s that makes it the right decision for Mitch and for the Sharks,” Flavell said.

“He’s been well looked after since he arrived in Invercargill, but the niggle hasn’t settled so Melbourne will need to make their own assessment and plan his recovery and we’ll be guided by their decision,” Flavell added.

Discussions regarding a potential replacement are already well advanced with the Sharks expected to confirm details over the next few days.
