Rules Explained: Media Timeouts

Similar to season 2019, Media Timeouts will be in place for the 2021 Sal’s NBL season. This is how they work:

The referees will call a mandatory time-out (to be known as a Media Timeout) in the first and third quarters of play at the point of the first whistle blown after the 5-minute mark if neither team has used one of their allocated time-outs prior to that point.

  • If either team has used a timeout in the first 5-minutes of either the first or third quarters, the Media Timeout will be cancelled for that quarter.
  • A Media Timeout does not count against either team’s allotment of timeouts for the game.
