The NZNBL is excited to announce the impending return of the Otago Nuggets to the Sal’s NBL with the news the bidding Franchise has successfully been granted provisional entry to the League.
The Otago bid was one of three the NBL Board recently met to discuss. Outcomes of the bids received from Franklin Basketball and Mt Gambier will be known shortly.
League General Manager Justin Nelson said he is “excited about the strong prospect of seeing the Otago Nuggets playing in the rising national competition in 2020 and representing such a strong and passionate basketball community.”
Basketball Otago has until August 7 to confirm its entry for season 2020.
“The process the league has undertaken over the last few months has been extremely thorough and the final three bids we received were very professional and well presented,” said Nelson.
“We are very excited to welcome the Otago Nuggets into the Sal’s NBL, they do have one or two final boxes to tick, but they are finalising these diligently with an expectation of successfully achieving everything in time for participation in 2020.”
Basketball Otago - has been granted provisional entry for 2020 with final requirements to be submitted by Wednesday August 7, 2019. Final requirements include an agreed financial operational base and appointment of a key management resource. If this deadline is not met the entry will be deferred to season 2021.
