3-Ball Frenzy For Sharp Shooting Hawks

The Hawke's Bay Hawks have continued dropping triples at a relentless rate in a masterful 134-107 thumping of the Manawatu Jets.

Hitting 20 treys from a staggering 48 attempts came just days after going 19/38 from long range against Nelson Giants in another big win last Thursday night. Such is the shooting form from deep by the Hawks that other teams are going to have to wake-up sooner rather than later and start pushing their defence higher.

Up by 7pts after the first quarter, then by 12pts at the half, the Hawks didn't let-up down the stretch, going on to take the homers in the second half 72-57.

EJ Singler (29pts @ 72%, 9rbs, 3 treys), Brandon Bowman (29pts, 10rbs), Ethan Rusbatch (24pts, 5 treys) and Daniel Kickert (12pts, 9rbs, 4 treys) dismantled the disappointing Jets, who in their two previous home games had toppled the Sharks and within 2pts of the Saints.

For the home team Daishon Knight (26pts), Wally Ellenson (19pts) and Kuran Iverson (17pts, 11rbs) toiled hard.

Talking Points

  1. The Hawks continue on a run that is no doubt making a few sit up and take notice. The brand of basketball the Hawks have delivered this round has been fun to watch. After blasting the Giants on Thursday night, they didn't give the Jets much of a look-in here either.
  2. If you love long-rage shooting, then you'll love what the Haws are doing right now. All up for R6, the Hawks dropped an incredible 39 triples from a staggering 86 attempts. Zico's chargers have a green light and they are most certainly taking it. Surely opposition defences are going to adapt soon, aren't they?
  3. EJ Singler and Brandon Bowman are starting to make for a very formidable import duo, and then of course you have the sublime Daniel Kickert working his way back to health and form helping to make the three-headed monster at the Hawks one which has the potential to take them all the way this season.
